Hair Dressing Project: Empowering Refugees and Host Communities Through Skill-Based Livelihoods

Mirror Group Network’s Hair Dressing Project

Hair Dressing Project is a hands-on vocational training initiative that equips refugees and vulnerable host community members in Uganda with practical skills in plaiting and hair styling. This program transforms talent into opportunity, fostering self-reliance and economic resilience.

Program Objectives

  • Skill Development for Income Generation: Participants receive professional training in hair styling, plaiting, and salon techniques, enabling them to earn a sustainable income.

  • Entrepreneurship & Employment Pathways: Graduates are empowered to launch their own businesses, work in established salons, or offer mobile services within their communities.

  • Community Resilience: By promoting self-employment and financial independence, the program strengthens local economies and reduces vulnerability.

  • Youth & Women Empowerment: The initiative prioritizes marginalized groups especially young people and women who face limited access to formal employment.

Why Hair Dressing Matters

In displacement-affected communities, vocational skills like hair dressing offer a low-cost, high-impact pathway to dignity and self-sufficiency. Beyond income, it builds confidence, creativity, and social connection.
